Mike Turtur is an Olympic and Commonwealth Games medallist.

At the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics Michael secured a gold medal in the Men’s 4000m Team Pursuit, after which he was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for his achievements.

At the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, 1982 Mike won two gold medals in the Men’s 4000m Teams and Individual Pursuits and a bronze medal in the 10 Mile Scratch Race. At Edinburgh in 1986, Mike was the flag bearer for Australia and then proceeded to win a gold medal in the Men’s 4000m Team Pursuit.

Following his cycling career Mike went on to share his knowledge and experience by becoming the South Australian Institute of Sport’s Cycling Coach for five years.

In 1993, after his coaching career, Mike went on to become the Manager and Promoter of the Adelaide SuperDrome with events during this time featuring world champion cyclists from Europe, Great Britain, USA and Australia.

In 1998 Mike was appointed Race Director of the Tour Down Under, a principal role which he continues to date.

Mike Turtur AO received his Order of Australia award in 2018, and was inducted as a Life Member of Cycling Australia’s Hall of Fame.
